My wife almost didn't make it home tonight due to the flash flooding in our area. It has been pretty constantly raining all day, and there's nowhere for a lot of this water to go.
7:25 p.m. update: Torrential rain continues, particularly in southern Fairfax county, southeast Prince William county, and southern Charles county. Road closures have been reported in Falls Church city, and a section of the beltway has been shutdown in both directions over Cameron Run due to high water. Flash flood warnings have been extended for the western suburbs through 11:00 p.m. Areas currently experiencing heavy rain may not see signficant improvement until after midnight. Rain is not moving quickly. This may have some incredibly bad consequences.
Flooding in PA is at historic levels.
Vermont is still trying to clean up the mess from Irene, but new rains hampers their efforts.
Meanwhile, the droughts and fires in the west continue.
The destruction caused by wildfires in Texas is mounting, with the number of homes reported lost soaring to 1,626, authorities said.
A fire raging across the state's Bastrop County has consumed 1,386 homes -- nearly double the 785 homes listed as lost as recently as Wednesday. Blazes elsewhere in the state are said to have destroyed about 240 homes since Sunday.
The escalating property toll underscores the sheer magnitude of the fires -- and the state's limited resources.
And new storms brew in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.
There's a moment coming. An epoch defining moment where we realize something very fundamental has changed.
